VLAN Trunk Protocol (VTP) is a Cisco proprietary protocol used to share VLAN configuration across the network. Cisco created this protocol to share and synchronize their VLAN information throughout the network. Main goal of VTP is to manage all configured VLANs across the network.

VTP Mode

VTP can be configured in three different modes.
  1. Server
  2. Transparent
  3. Client
By default switch Mode is Server

  1.  Server mode :-  By default mode of Switch is Server.
  • Create Vlan 
  • modified Vlan 
  • Delete Vlan
  • All mode Access Vlan from Server. 
      2. Transparent mode :- User create this mode
  • this mode have unique own Vlan and Network
  • they access vlan form server but did not keep there database and foreword to client   
  • create vlan own
  • delete vlan 
  • modified vlan
      3. Client mode :- Create by user this Vlan
  • they access vlan from Server
  • can't create Vlan
  • can't delete Vlan
